Can dry molasses be used instead of compost underneath the newspapers to start a flower/veg bed. I like to use the newspaper to start the bed starting now (Nov) and the weeds will be dead by spring.

Dry molasses sounds like it is the same product as brown sugar. I have no experience with the use of these products. Newspapers are a good barrier to weeds that want to come up from below. It is of little protection when it comes to weed seeds that are blown in or brought in afterwards.
