I am trying to get rid of my weedy fescue lawn and lay new sod. Are there any grass and weed killer I can use now so that I can lay sod soon without waiting for months?

Glyphosate, the active ingredient in products like "Roundup" will kill a large spectrum of plants. Give it 7 to 10 days to become effective. You may want to mow and bag the dead material if it is plentiful; if not, you can lay the sod directly over the decaying material. Glyphosate is safe because it does not leave any residue which might interfere with the rooting in of the new sod.
