QuestionI have attempted to grow grass in a semi sunny area, This area has been heavily turned over and has a base of several feet of new top soil. Some ares have taken but others grow but soon die and turn a straw like color. The areas that do grow do not get deep roots however but do maintain green color. My landscapers are at a loss for why this is happening.
Can I have my soil tested or what else can I refer too?
Thank you for your time.
Answer The area has been 'ploughed' and several FEET (not inches?) of topsoil replaced. If the new topsoil is that deep I cannot explain why the grass has failed in patches. From what I read, the patches that have kept their color are not deeply rooted. This indicates that the roots in the other areas are dipping into something that the plant does not like. I have to believe that all the topsoil is free from defect. Poor growth occurs where the topsoil is thin. If you can sample the subsoil and compare it with results from the topsoil itself, it may provide a clue as to what the problem is.
