QuestionEach year during the summer, portions of the lawn within a foot or two of the front curb of our house dry up and die. Every fall, I reseed and it looks good the following spring. Maybe I'm using the wrong seed. What type of grass seed do you recommend for this area of the lawn that gets direct sunlight the whole day. No trees shade this area of the lawn. I live in the Washington DC metro area.
Thanks,
Joe
Answer You say that patches of your lawn in a particular area die every year during summer. This suggests a watering problem (are all the sprinkler heads working well?). Or it might be a recurring insect problem like grubs. Does the roadway near the curb collect water which is then splashed on to the grass by passing vehicles. Very often this water is polluted with oil etc. which will kill grass. I very much doubt that changing the grass type will solve the problem.
