QuestionI read your answer to another poster about fertilizing a new lawn and having it turn yellow.
We seeded a new lawn this spring, and at the advice of our local extension agent, fertilized it with generic 19-19-19. It has since turned streaky yellow, and it is clearly ON the grass, not the grass itself. We have a HUGE yard (10+ acres) with probably 2 acres of newly established lawn with yellowing (just what was graded out around our new house). We do not water our yard, however we had a very cool, wet summer here, which I assume would cause the same effect.
That said, what is the solution?? I see you said don't get an anti-fungal, lest we kill the good with the bad. So what do we do?
Thank you!
Jennifer
Answer I understand you to mean that there is some kind of yellow deposit on the grass blades. The only thing I can come up with is slime mold which can be either black or yellow in color. This condition does not require control. Then there are rust diseases which cause a yellow-to-orange powdery or grainy deposit. This condition can be controlled. I cannot be sure what troubles your lawn and I am truly sorry that I cannot provide a better answer.
