QuestionHi,
We built a house in Greenwood, IN in March 2008. We got our back yard seeded by the builder( he said it is Kentucky blue grass) but now my lawn is fully covered with rough tall fescue. We got the lawn treated with Scott's for crab grass and other weeds and mowed and maintained it(without knowing that what we have is tall fescue). Now the grass is rough and is hard on feet when we walk. There is not even one Kentucky blue grass. What do you suggest me to do to make my lawn thick and soft with healthy grass.
Answer Consider that originally the seed was a mixture of the two grasses; and over time, the way the lawn has been cultured, has favored the tall fescue. Now you want to change the grass. A complete re-sod of the lawn is your best bet against the tall fescue as a weed. You might have to change the way you have been doing things to keep the new grass looking as good as you indicate. I am not conversant with the growing conditions of the two grasses but I am sure that you will find good help from local sources.
For the record, I recommend that you keep the existing lawn.
