QuestionI tilled up a section of my lawn after killing a field of fox tails. I then burned the dead fox tails. Months later I tilled the soil and planted a combination of annual rye and Kentucky Blue grass seed. Grass is coming up, but is rather sparse, and now the weeds are thick as blazes. I cannot spray the weeds as the grass is not established. The question is whether i can get more dense grass by just spreading seed over the area without tilling again. Thanks.
Answer You may be able to contol the weeds; it depends upon correct identification of the weeds and the careful selection of chemical. I always stress that chemicals are designed for specific situations. Ascertain that the chosen chemical will do what is required in the circumstances.
You can overseed provided that you can provide the right conditions for germination and growth. Weather conditions may be against overseeding at this time.
