QuestionHi, we have had creeping red fescue on a north facing slope here ins southern california. We are inland about 30 miles and we are in zone 9-10.
it has done well over the years but we know it likes more shade. We get brown patches and it spreads. Thinning it out or it just kills it. We think it might be a fungas. it's a beatiful grass and looks great under all our queen and other palms.
What can we put on it to stop it? Is it Dollar Spot disease?
Answer It requires lab tests to confirm the presence of a fungus. This costs. To avoid the expense and inconvenience, fungus diseases are diagnosed by eliminating other causes. If there is no insect activity and there are not any abiotic causes like fuel/oil spills and drips then you may well have a fungus condition. Treatment can run expensive so accurate diagnosis is a prerequisite.
