QuestionMy husband sprayed roundup around the crabapple tree in our yard, including the suckers around the tree. He said the direction said it wouldn't hurt trees and shrubs. That was about three weeks ago, the tree has been deteriorating ever since, the leaves were drooping now are turning brown and falling off. We cut down the suckers and put some tree fertilizer in the ground around the tree, no improvement. Is there anything else we can do to help the tree? Will it come back next spring? Please advise us. Thank you. Sue K
Answer If you sprayed any green parts of that crabapple tree (like the suckers), then the chemical is being translocated to all parts of the tree. If you mixed the chemical carefully, the tree might be well able to tolerate the toxicity. Only time will tell. Meanwhile you can make sure that the tree is not stressed out for any reason. It means watering without over watering; no fertilizing; no drying out. Good luck!
