QuestionAustin, TX - We put Dillo Dirt out on our St. Augustine lawn this past weekend hoping to help it thicken up and turn green. I'm watering the lawn right now, but a little concerned because the lawn looks scorched in places. The St. Augustine is yellow and curled thin in some places. Is this normal?
Answer As far as I understand, this product is composted yard waste and if done correctly, it will be free of harmful insects and fungi. Although you put down the product over the whole lawn, the symptoms are seen only in patches. This suggests that the problem is in the ground where these patches are. "This past weekend" suggests that only days have passed. If the product was put down more heavily in the problem patches and the sun was very hot then the heat held in the dark colored mulch can cause stress. If this is all true, watering should correct the situation.
