QuestionI live in SC (zip 29501) and have two live oak trees planted in a centipede lawn. Beginning last year, I began noticing patches around the trees where teh centipede began dying out. I tried watering more and core aerating to help, but so far nothing is working...and the patches are getting bigger. Any suggestions?

Answer I cannot explain why the turf has died in patches under the oak trees. Centipede grass is tolerant of shade and some cold. There is mention of a decline which sets in as the turf gets older but there is no identifiable cause and no specific remedy. I would look for a fungus condition.
