QuestionI have a horrible grub, and japanese beetle problem. I have .54 acres which I have no idea how many square feet that is. I bought the nematodes enough to cover 5000 square feet which I did my whole lawn minus the garden because I wasnt sure it would be safe, and I got milky spore which I couldn't do right because there wasn't enough so I put a tablespoon here and there all over my yard, and I did it the right way in the part of my yard that had the biggest amount of japanese beetles last year. I also didn't use this in my garden but near it. I couldn't afford the bigger package of milky spore. I also kill the grubs any time I see them, and accually they are few and far between. I go by what Jerry baker teaches on using household stuff to replace all kinds of yard and garden stuff. instead of using harmful chemicals. He calls to use coke, beer, dish soap, ammonia, corn syrup, will any of this kill the nematodes, or milky spore.
Answer I have known lawn care professionals to almost weep in frustration over the problem of grubs. There are some good reasons for this. There are different types of grubs each with its own lifestyle and life cycle. If you want to do it yourself, take some of the grubs to your County Extension Office and have them accurately identified. While you are there, learn all you can about milky spore (bacteria) and nematodes (round worms) and how they work to control grubs. They will have up to date and unbiased information and it is all free. I have to confess that I am not as up to date in my own knowledge of this problem and its solutions. Your question is motivation for me to pursue this. Many thanks.
