QuestionI live in Central Ky. My backyard has a very large maple and all the grass under and at the periphery of the tree branches is long gone. What can I plant in this area (grass or ground cover) that will grow and withstand dogs & kids? There is mostly northern and eastern exposure, with south & west being more limited.
AnswerWell, the grass won't work. I'm not much of a ground cover expert, so I can't help a lot there either.
The one thing I can suggest is to spread a nice looking bark mulch under the tree. It'll keep the shoes and paws from getting too dirty as the little ones run through, it's zero maintenance, and it looks nice.
Thanks for writing!
