I was reading your question and answers and was asking to ask lawn maintenance program.  Could you explain to me.  My lawn looks sick?

A good lawn maintenance program is a very extensive subject. I will try to make it short.
1. Mow regularly. I recommend once a week because you will cut back any weeds before they form seeds.
2. Water the lawn when the grass shows you that it needs water; the leaf blades will roll up. This will happen on patches at first. Look for these patches and water when the symptom appears on them. Water well but stop as soon as water starts to run off on to the sidewalk or street. You want to wet the ground up to a depth of six inches. After you watered to what you think is enough, dig into the ground to see how far the water has reached. You will soon get to know how long you have to water to achieve this.
It is difficult to make a fertilizer recommendation but the color of the grass blades is the best indication. Use a low analysis fertilizer (like 16-4-8) and apply it when you are sure that the grass does not need watering. Very often the lawn starts to look yellow because it needs water rather than fertilizer.
