Question
we live near Denver Colorado and I have 1 year old sod.  It is very healthy.  Should it be aerated at this age?  If not, when should I start?

I do not think that aeration is needed so soon.
Aeration is a practice aimed at improving the physical condition of the soil. It can be necessary after the soil has compacted. Compaction can take many years and signs are:-
Irrigation or rainfall does not penetrate the soil but starts to run off in a short time.
The turf seems to require watering more often.
The turf does not respond to fertilizer because there is not enough moisture for it to do so.
