QuestionHi C.J.,
We are new to managing a lawn and need some help. Last season we applied the appropriate fertilizers during the spring and summer. In September we core aerated and overseeded, which lead to some nice, new grass.
But now we have a mole problem (a result of the aeration?) and a weed infestation (a result of the mole or grubs?). About 40% of our back lawn is covered with a light green grassy weed with some clover and a purple flowering weed thrown in.
What can we do to get back to the nice lawn we had last fall? We live in NJ.
AnswerHi Maggie,
1) Moles are a natural occurrence that have nothing to do with aeration or anything else you've done. I'd recommend Mole-Med for getting rid of them. Just follow instructions.
2) Weeds are also a natural occurrence also. You'll need to treat them with a selective weed control product. At the local garden center, you should find somebody who can help you with picking out the right one.
These are normal issues that you will run into as you learn more about maintaining your lawn. Keep reading up, and tackle each problem one at a time. You'll start getting it.
Good luck Maggie.
