QuestionI live in PA, how do I get rid of this tenacious grass? Someone told me that salt would kill it. It is growing right over my well so I don't want to use anything toxic.
AnswerHi Melody,
If using something toxic is a problem, then salt would be out of the question too. Toxicity is purely a measure of how much of something causes a problem. Too much salt is toxic. So is too much nicotine, caffeine, vitamin c, iron, etc. In order to kill off the Zoysia, you'll need to apply a toxic dose of something, otherwise it will not be affected by definition.
Though chemicals cause alarm (and often rightfully so), they have the advantage of being specifically tailored to a certain use. In your case, I'd recommend RoundUp, as it will kill off the Zoysia completely.
Of course, the other option is to just live with it. In fact, there's nothing wrong with zoysia, and it tends to be the best looking stuff during the heat of the summer. That's all up to you though.
Good luck!
