QuestionI laid down Bermuda sod in an area in my yard and it has grown evenly, but some clovers and other weeds have sprouted up recently. How should i get rid of those weeds?
Also, in one area of my yard (near a few treat roots) where sun in abundant, grass will not grow. It has been bare for about 3 years and the ground is extremely hard. What advice would you give to allow even grass to grow in this area?
Also, I apparently waited to long to rake in one area of my yard, so the grass has turned a yellow to white color, how can i get this grass healthier and grow better?
What other ways can I eliminate weeds in my whole yard which is a problem?
AnswerHi Nick,
The only way to truly get rid of weeds is to use a selective herbicide that is safe for Bermuda grass. These are pretty common, and you'd just need to go to the local garden center to find some. Definitely ask for some help from the salesman so you don't inadvertently get something that will kill the Bermuda too.
The area where the ground is extremely hard seems like a pretty impossible place to grow grass. The only way to change that is to improve the soil conditions. You can do this by spreading a thick layer of topsoil over that hard area and giving it another chance. Typically, the grass needs at least 4 inches of decent soil to really do well.
The area where the leaves killed the grass will just need to be re-sodded if the grass does not bounce back on its own. You can't re-animate dead life.
The weeds in the yard can be controlled if you stay on top of them every few weeks with the selective herbicide that I mentioned above. Just make it part of your routine to spot treat patches that are popping us, and pretty soon you'll find that there are very, very few that you need to worry about anymore.
Good luck my friend!
