QuestionI really know nothing about gardening but have started to take an interest.I have a problem with the grass not growing in my yard. The ground is very hard and there is a bit of gravel or building material , concrete also mixed in there. I have laid new grass 3 times and still it does not grow properly. I have these dry patches and a lot of ants. I have huge pine like and oak like trees in the yard as well and nothing underneath and around these trees grow. Can you please help?
AnswerHi Noel,
This one's pretty easy. Trying to grow grass in these circumstances is like trying to raise fish on a piece of sandpaper. It just ain't happening. The grass needs decent soil just as the fish needs water.
You'll need to have good topsoil brought in and spread out before you can really start trying to get a decent lawn in there.
Good luck.
