Question
I read that spreading sugar, alfalfa meal and lava sand. will control weeds in an established centipede lawns. I also have problems with red fire ants as well.  Will the sugar help the weeds and feed the ants? I live in the Greenville South Carolina area. I have red clay soil and had two inches of top soil spread before planting the new lawn two years ago.  I have fertilized this lawn regularly

Nope. Sorry. I think I get this question at least once a week.

Sugar, alfalfa meal, and lava sand will only do one thing. It will put money into the pockets of the people selling it.

I'm not sure about the fire ants though.
