QuestionHello,I have a couple of problem spots in my lawn. Last year I rehabed a large area of lawn that is on a slope and now it has large areas of moss. It gets good sun but I need to know how to alleviate this problem. There are other spots in the lawn with the same problems. Also I need to know the best time to put a good quality crabgrass and weed preventer on the lawn this spring. Should I aerate my lawn first because I don't believe it has been done. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Greg
AnswerMoss: 1) Rake and rip the moss out, 2) Put down 50 lbs of limestone/1000 square feet in that area, 3) seed and water lightly every day until the new grass grows in.
Crabgrass: The preventer is best put down before soil temperatures reach 60 degrees, which will usually happen about a week after air temperatures reach and stay at about 70 degrees.
Aeration: I recommend aerating lawns in the fall as the weather begins to cool a bit.
Good luck Greg!
