Overseeding in the spring in Ohio

Question
Is it to late to overseed? And what order should i go about it? Dethatch, aerate, fertilize, then seed? Also when i tried to rake the shade aera's hugh clumps of grass had formed green moss and came right out of the ground leaving hugh dirt patches in most areas. What should i do in those places?   thanks Jim Durham

Answer
Hi Jim,

I'm surprised that you think it might be too late to overseed. If anything, it's pretty early. My recommended order?

1) Aerate
2) Seed
3) Rake seed around to mix with soil and drop back into the holes.
4) Fertilize
5) Water
6) More water
7) Continue watering.....

In the dirt patches, mix in some shade seed and water. Then water some more.

Basically, seed needs to be kept wet in order to grow.

Good luck!
