QuestionLocated in dallas texas and I have a dead grass problem on front edge of lawn. I thought because of tree trimming the sun might have burned it, but not sure. Right on the front edge by sidewalk about 8 foot long section along edge and about 1 foot into main lawn. Do I just sod or what?
AnswerYou make it sound like a distinct rectangle (8ft.x 1ft.) and this could be quite the important observation. Damage which show straight line boundaries is usually due to abiotic factors (if a piece of plywood was left on the lawn, for instance). If there is a curved edge, it may be that a sprinkler head is not (fully) functioning. It could be chinch bugs (on St.Augustine grass) or even a fungus. You can soap-flush the area to confirm or eliminate insect activity. Do not discount damage indirectly associated with the tree trimming. Was a machine parked near the spot and could its exhaust hot air cause the damage?
