QuestionOur neighbor accidently set our lawn on fire. We live near Tampa and have St. Augustine grass. We have been told it will come back. If this true, is there anything we should be doing to aid the process such as watering or putting topsoil on top? Thank you.
AnswerIt will come back. Long ago and far away it used to be an acceptable practice in the rejuvenation of pastures. Water well when there is the need. The grass will let you know by rolling its leaves. Mow at the highest setting on your lawn mower. The more leaf surface the better during the recovery phase. Fertilize with a turf builder type of fertilizer when rainfall or irrigation is available. The fire has probably taken care of any pest problem.
