weed with stickers

Question
I live in North Texas and we have 3 acres. We have a severe problem with some type of weed I can't identify that produces clusters of tiny stickers that when single almost look like a bull horn and are painful to pets and people. I need to know how to control it. The land is mostly open field and has not been planted with anything except right around the house we have Bermuda grass. I'm desperate to get rid of these as they seem to be spreading more and more every year and are taking over the whole area!

Answer
I suspect that you are dealing with sandspurs (Cenchrus spp). Effective control starts with accurate ID of the weed(s). I suggest that you take a sample in to the County Extension Office; they will identify it and set you on a program to control it. In the meantime this site may be of some help.
