QuestionI live in west Texas. We bought a house and the front yard is really dry and have alot of weeds. We are wanting to till up the yard and put new grass down. When is the best time to do this? Also we were thinking St. Augustine grass because we heard it is great to have when you have children?
AnswerHi Christina,
If you are planning to sod, this plan sounds fine. Just make sure to do it when the grass is actively growing. You want to make sure the roots are actively going to grow down and take root quickly. You also mentioned that the lawn is dry. To state the obvious, you'll need to change this by watering. New sod will shrivel up and die if it isn't watered regularly, so make sure you have a hose and sprinklers on hand, otherwise the investment will be a waste.
St. Augustine is a good, reliable grass. I can't think of anything that would necessarily be any better.
Good luck!
