QuestionI have a heavily broad leaf weed infested floritam lawn with canopies of large oaks covering it. I purchased Scotts Weed and Feed but have read reports that it is not very effective. What can I use to improve it's appearance?
Answer Atrazine is usually the weedkiller in 'weed and feed' products to be used on 'Floratam' lawns. The % is quite small and therefore accurate application is the key to good results. If you have already used the product, I very much doubt that you can do a second application. You would be over fertilizing for one thing but more importantly, there is a limit to the number of applications/amount of atrazine that you can use. Then there are those oak trees.
My best advice is to grow a thick lawn by mowing it weekly at 3-4 inches high. The objective is to cut the weeds BEFORE THEY SET SEED and let the turf smother the regrowth. It might sound like a lot of work but it works.
