crab grass, dallas grass or johnson grass

Question
I have Dallas grass,Johnson grass or crab grass in my yard and I am so tired of it and have used weed and feed and other things to try and get rid of it.  I was told that whatever I used to feed my st.augustine grass the weeds feed on it also. I read in one article here that I could use sugar on it. What are my options for getting rid of this weed. The weed has tall stems that have black sticky things at the end of it.

Answer
Yeah, that's one of those REALLY tough ones.  Any selective control products won't do anything, since this grass is not much different than the St. Augustine.

Using the above link, you'll find a tool that can be used to carefully apply roundup to the problem plants.  Careful though!  Touching the St. Augustine will kill it too.

Very careful applications of roundup will eventually get this under control.  I've even seen people paint the roundup onto the Dallisgrass with small paintbrushes.  Tedious? Oh yeah!  Effective? Yes.

Don't try to tackle it all at once.  Just spend some time every weekend trying to get the roundup onto the bad stuff while avoiding the St. Augustine.  Over time, the problem will subside to just a few plants occasionally popping up, which you can then get rid of in a similar fashion.

Good luck!
