QuestionMy sister is demolishing her her house and has suggested we take the turf from her yard as we have recently renovated and have a big pile of dirt as our garden.
We have good soil (kind of sandy (as opposed to clay)) that has been well prepared to lay the turf down and we have booked a turf cutter for the day. Would you have anyy handy hints on taking up the turf.
Cheers,
Sonia
AnswerOnly that you should verify the type of grass in her lawn. If it's not a rhizomatous or stoloniferous species (types of grass that spread with lateral growing runners), it won't hold together as sod. You'll cut it out, try to lift it up, and it will fall apart into a hundred small plants.
If you get a definitive diagnosis as to what the grass species is, let me know, and I'll tell you whether or not it'd be worth any effort.
Good luck!
