QuestionI have installed a new St. Augustine lawn. The sod co. told me only to use Miracle Grow Lawn fertilizer. Do you agree and at what point do I fertilize. Best regards,
AnswerSt Augustinegrass is Warm Season Grass. Your Sod Company probably meant well, but if you read any of my answers here it should be obvious that I don't think much of chemical fertilizers.
Probably there is a reason to use them somewhere on Planet Earth, but this is a big business and that is the only reason people buy them. Most fertilizer is unnecessary.
Tell me where you are growing your Grass and I will guide you to the perfect, most convenient location to get your Soil tested. Only a Soil Test will tell you what, if anything, your Grass needs to grow well.
Liquid Fertilizers like Miracle Gro are inexpensive and work so quickly you'd swear someone painted your Grass a brighter color Green. But the color is fleeting, because the fertilizer is fleeting. Most of it evaporates in a few hours. In hotter temperatures, they burn foliage.
Ringer and Milorganite are slow release and last longer than Miracle Gro.
