watering newly planted seed

Question
We just hydro seeded our lawn today, Sept. 17th. We have a irrigation system that is currently to water at five a.m. and at five p.m. for thirty minute intervals.  I am wondering if this is the correct amount of time. Also wondering how long do I keep up with this watering schedule?  We live in SE Minnesota if that makes a difference.  Any advice you can give us about making this successful we would really appreciate it.  Thanks so much Jackie Mcf

Answer
Hi Jackie,

The trick is simply to keep the seed wet as much as possible.  Do that until you've had to mow it once or twice.

The timing sounds fine, but understand that "3o minutes" is less descriptive than you might think.  Your system could put out 4X as much as mine in the same amount of time.  That's why I say to just keep it wet.  If it takes an hour split into two waterings each day, fine.  If you can get away with 15 minutes, great.  Whatever it takes is what you do.

Good luck, and keep it up!
