QuestionI live in Niceville, FL (Northwest Florida zone 8)...just had some St Augustine put in. Water according to companies directions. One week later the grass is slowly turning beige. Everyday it keeps spreading very evenly.
I checked for chinch (none)..it has established a root system. My neighbor said it probably sat on pallets too long (three days) and fertilizer did something to it. Someone else says fungus. Would the baking soda hurt it. Or is there something else that would help it get healthy again. I do continue to water everyday. Thank you for your service. Belle
AnswerHi Belle,
If sod is left on pallets too long, it can certainly start to go bad, but usually some water and fresh air gets it right back on track. The baking soda won't hurt, but it's not a cure-all either.
This is one of those cases where I'd advise you to call back the sod company immediately to come examine the sod. If it's diseased, they need to take a certain amount of responsibility for that. With any luck, it may just require a quick application of something to get it healthy again.
Good luck Belle. Call the sod company right away.
