QuestionAbout a month ago, I noticed a few dead spots on my grass (in the same general area). I assumed it was a result of my lawn mower leaking a few drops of gas. Over the last month, the same general area now has about 50 ?60 spots !!!! After a closer examination of the spots, I noticed that when I felt the area of a dead spot, there was a small 揵ump?in the soil in almost every spot. When I pushed the dead grass away to see, it almost looks like a 揵ald spot?of soil (for lack of a better description). I assumed that there must be some type of bud or worm doing the damage, so I dug up few spots to see if I could find something. All I found in one of them was a small (1/8 inch) worm resembling an earth worm. I don抰 know if this is the culprit or not, but at the rate the spots are appearing, I won抰 have much lawn left on that side of the yard. We have experienced an extremely wet year this summer. Can you tell me what is causing this and what I could do to stop this problem ?
Hope you can help.
AnswerHmm, this doesn't sound like anything overly obvious. The spots actually sound more like "Dollar Spot", which is a mild fungal disease caused by excessive moisture. I highly doubt that the worm was causing the problem. The only issue is that Dollar Spot doesn't tend to cause the root system to disintegrate as you'll noticed.
Any chance you can send me some pictures for review? It may be as simple as me taking a quick look.
