QuestionI live in the North Texas area. I have a bermuda hybrid lawn. I am pretty knowlegable about its care. However, I am stumped. We had a pretty hot summer, my lawn stood out in the neighborhood because it was so green and the other lawns were brown and parched looking. we hardly got any rain. I average about an inch of water a week when watering my lawn. In mid august we had about 3 inches of rain over a 3 day period. Afert the rains my lawn started to turn yellowish. It had been about 3 months since i last fertilized. I fertilized and most of the yard came back more green. but in other spots it sill appears yellowish. Why would it do this after a good rain? What could it be?
AnswerThat's a tough one to answer without actually seeing the problem first hand. It sounds to me like it could be a disease issue caused by too much water. Keep in mind that while all plants require some water, Bermuda is best suited to drier climates. It's easy to overdo the watering with it.
Lots of diseases are caused by fungus that thrives under wetter conditions. It seems to me that this could be the case here.
I would simply advise you to hang on and see what happens over the next month or 2. As seasons change so do disease pressures and various lawn stresses. Often times, the grass just grows out of the particular issues.
Write back in a month or so if things don't turn around. Good luck!
