dead sod replacement

Question
i live in central texasFront yard area is 1300 square feet it is covered is dead sod. now the only thing alive is weeds.. I want to kill off all the weeds and replant or resod.. which do you suggest.. any other suggestions on this as i am new to lawn care.

Answer
First, I'd highly recommend figuring out what killed the sod.  Was it not watered properly when it was laid down last time?  Was there an underlying soil problem?  I can't tell you how many times I've seen sod laid on top of rock hard soil, only to burn out and die.

Whatever you do, just make sure the underlying soil is decent for growing.  Then you can do either.  Sod is quicker but more expensive.  Seed takes diligence and patience, but is less expensive and will give you the same quality lawn in the long run.  Either way is good.  It's just up to what your wallet and patience can handle.

ALSO, make sure to water diligently once it's put down.  Either needs lots of water to get established.  If you're not prepared to do that, make sure to get hoses & sprinklers so that you can start as soon as the job's done.

Good luck my friend!
