QuestionI replaced all my back yard, 1 side and a 6'x6' section in my front yard with floratham st. augustine. My previous was not floratham. My home faces north south, but the back yard does get a little more direct light. Orlando, FL...anyway this was in March and everything was going great and then I put down a weed prohibitor in my front yard that I had used in the past. I slowly started to notice the grass going brown and eventually dead in the side and front. A little research and I realize my chemical was listed not for floratham...My concern now is that it seems to be expanding beyond the replaced areas. How should I treat this and whats the best approach to replaced the damaged grass?
AnswerHi Shawn,
I apologize for not getting back sooner. I missed the email alert that this question was waiting for me.
At this stage, I'd recommend just watering as much as possible, and hoping that the dose to the St. Augustine was less than the toxic limit. With any luck, much of it'll bounce back again. Whatever does die will just need to be removed, and the area re-sodded. Often times these chemicals are very harsh on grasses like SA, but one dose isn't enough to kill it.
Good luck!
