Question"So I actually have two questions....first off I live north of Seattle and on New Years Eve someone drove into our lawn with a large truck and when they saw that we were sitting outside burned out leaving, the tired tracks are definite but not too deep, we have been told that we have to dig them out and re-seed is this the only answer?
Secondly, we have a female boston terrier and it seems that where she pees the grass is dead, not dying but bare dirt patch dead, is this normal and is there a quick fix to it or do we have to look into changing her diet or puting chemicals on the lawn?
Thanks for your time Jennifer"
I accidentally asked this question to the wrong person but I meant to send it to you not Aman
AnswerJennifer:
Usually, tire tracks are not too deep. Unless the truck was loaded when it spun out, you may simply level that area by hand and reseed. If the ruts are deeper, add some soil and then reseed. Be careful not to add too much. The root zone is below the leaf zone. Adding too much will create a hump.
Dog/pet urine is a pernnial problem. The damage is usually caused by salts. The best defenses are diet, as you know, and a healthy turf which can recover quickly. Keep fertilization and stand population high, making sure to mow at the proper height, usually three inches plus or minus for winter grasses and Bermuda. This should provide quick recovery.
Best wishes.
