QuestionHello, We have a tree in the back yard that produces millions of seeds. The seeds are sprouting millions of baby trees in the grass. How do we get rid of them and/or prevent this happening?
AnswerJudy:
Sounds like you have a maple in your yard (if you live up north.) Unfortunately, the seeds will continue to sprout. If mowing does not remove them, and you do not want these seedlings in your lawn, you may have to consider cutting the tree down.
Constant use of a target specific herbicide every year, maybe twice a year, will control them. But they will return.
Ask your local ag agent or garden center to identify the tree and describe its characteristics. If you want to keep it, adjust to the seedlings. If not, the choice is clear.
Best wishes.
