QuestionWe have a brown patch in the lawn. It is an area of the lawn which is covered by trees and has some sunshine in the afternoon. Not much we suspect. It was suggested that we sow shady grass seeds in that area. Is it a good time now with the ground starting to get cold or should we wait for later
AnswerSometimes it's better late than never, but in this case I'm afraid that train has left the station.
It is possible to sow seeds now -- Grass grows better planted in Autumn instead of Spring -- but the germination rate and survivors will be limited. How much, I don't know -- depends on the original viability, etc.
What you CAN do is get yourself a first rate Soil Test. Your state has some of the premier Soil Labs in the nation. Why not take advantage of that? The fee is modest and, like I've said before, worth its weight in gold. Thanks for writing.
