QuestionMany answers to questions about mushrooms in the lawn/mulch say they are beneficial. What I need to understand is if it could be a sign that the ground is too wet. My problem is in a mulch bed near my foundation. THANKS!
AnswerKelly:
Mushrooms in a mulch bed may almost be normal. They are feeding on the decay of wood and require moisture to survive. Their appearance is not an indication of too much moisture unless the soil is soft where they grow.
Is this near an air conditioning water vent? Or a place where the roof or gutter dumps water?
If the area is not well drained, it would be a good idea to relieve the water from that area. If not, then the mushrooms should disappear in time.
Best wishes.
