QuestionI transplanted this bush from my mother's house a year and 1/2 ago. Seemed like it died shirtly thereafter, but I left it in the ground over the winter and this spring it came to life and has flowered beautifully all summer long.
It STILL has numerous buds on it and I want to trim it back a bit. When can i do this so I do not stunt it's growth or damage it in any way? I live in N.E. Ohio and have clay soil. I just want to trim it so it grows more out than up.Thanks!
AnswerDenise:
My first supervisor, Wayne Bright, bless him, asked me one day when I thought it was time to prune. I said that I was sure I did not know. He told me, "When the pruners are sharp." He, then, turned me loose on a bed of roses.
You may wait until winter or early spring. Enjoy the blossoms while they last. Hibiscus s., tose of Sharon, have a tendency to branch anyway.
Best wishes.
