QuestionI just read your answer to Lisa in Colorado Springs. My lawn is just like you described but it is nearly 100% shaded by a deciduous tree. It does get a little morning side-ways sun. Can you give me any grass seed recommendations?
Answer'Supernova' variety Supina Bluegrass is what the doctor orders for you, sir.
A few years ago, Bluegrass would not be an option -- you would be limited to Fescue, Fescue and Fescue. Red Fescue is the only turfgrass with a gene for Shade.
Until now.
If you can find it.
Grass is not something you can throw together in the kitchen. You can't build factories to spit out tons and tons of Grass seed. Noooo! You have to give it time. Let Nature take its course.
So there's a short supply of this, and as we know, supply and demand determine the cost of everything. So this is expensive Grass. And I don't say that often.
But if you have a small Lawn, it won't be too painful.
Seedland.com sells it on the internet. You may find it elsewhere if you're lucky. In fact, if you find it all, consider yourself lucky. Seedland may be out of it this year.
This is one of the most shade tolerant Grasses ever invented. I love talking about it; this is a real breakthrough and it lets us do things we could not do before. Grow Grass in the Shade, where we all like to hang out, relaxing under the Tree, surrounded by Green Grass. Very nice.
Let me know how it goes.
