QuestionI have a white powdery substance on my lawn that comes back every year and seems to be getting worse. They tell me its powdery mold. Its almost like a talk powder when I brush it. The answers I am getting almost contradict each other,I am so confused. Any advise I would be grateful for.
AnswerJohn:
You have good advice. It is powdery mildew or snowmold - a fungus. The treatment is Benomyl.
You may try some organic products. But I have no predictable, lasting experience with any but high quality compost applied to the whole site. Though a good compost is antifungal, it may not beat out some fungi. In turf, the success is high.
However, when soil and plants are wet, nutrients are sufficient and temperatures are high, the fungus has all it needs.
Best wishes.
