Questiona week ago I applied liquid iron to my lawn. the grass was dry but rain came within 12 hours.no results so far. Should I reapply & if so how often, rain factor, and any thing else i should do.
AnswerDear Mr. Mestler:
Most of the diseases which plague St. Augustine grass have a symptom of yellowing. If the problem comes from a high pH, then you have done the right thing. Give the iron a chance to work. Applying more should not hurt the plants or soil, within reason. You should be working from a soil analysis to target a pH below 6.0.
With the other problems, there must be a correct diagnosis. For fungal and viral diseases, a tissue analysis will reveal the culprit. For pests, a plant/soil analysis will point to an insect. Most problems are fungal andcan be treated easily, except for fairy rings and mushrooms.
