QuestionWhat is the best way to evenly spread sugar to your lawn? The chemical spreaders you can purchase at the hardware store seems like they may distribute way too much sugar because of the fine granularity of sugar.
AnswerHi Bruce;
You don't have to be so particular as you do with chemicals.
If you get too much in one place, all you will do is waste a little sugar, it won't burn the lawn or harm anything. You don't have to get it even.
All the sugar does is feed micro-organisms in the soil. It doesn't attract anys because you water it in, so it is all disolved.
I just broadcast it by hand, because that is easier, then I water well.
If you have not been on organics, you need to get some micro-organisms into your soil. They are what does all the work.
If you are making compost, you can toss a little of that down all over.
You can start a compost plie now, or you can buy a compost container.
Put all your raw vegetable and fruit peels and waste in it, and you can add a little soil to get it started.
You can put leaves that fall, any weeds you pull or dig up. I let weeds become food for the plants they tried ti kill. that is justice.LOL
Ask your neighbors that rake their leaves and put them out for pickup, to give you their leaves this fall, and by spring you will have a lot of good rich top soil to top dress with.
DON'T put dog poop or animal manure that is not properly rotted in the compost or you can introduce some parasits you don't want, in compost that is to go on a veggie garden or orchard.
