QuestionHi! I have a nice looking lawn of about 1.6 of an acre in front of my house. No one in the area has fences in the front of our homes. Unfortunately, some neighbors allow their large dogs to "walk" themselves at night, and they usually do their thing on my lawn. I do not have as big a problem as my wife does. Is there something I can lay down, other than a physical barrier, to keep them dogs off my lawn?
Thanks,
AnswerOh, those bad bad dogs. Yes, we have the same problem. No, there is nothing to get them -- except a bigger dog. But you might be able to convince the owners to see the error of their ways. I know someone in our neighborhood who proceeded to pick up all the dog poop and anonymously place it the next morning on the front steps of the guilty owners. Problem solved.
There is a gadget you can buy that will spray anything that gets near it. It's a motion activated sprinkler. Designed for cats but would work with dogs, too. Dogs hate watery surprises in the dark. Not cheap. I have one. Bought it on sale at Smith & Hawkin. I personally love the surprise factor.
Running your sprinkler at night just as they start past your house will discourage Dogs from even thinking of your house as an option.
Local ordinances may find those Dogs are violating the law. Shame on them. Arrest the bums.
Soryr, though, there is nothing else you can do. Not yet, anyway. But any day now someone will come up with something.
