QuestionHi Charlotte. You have been a wealth of info for me! I hope you can help me with this. I have hundreds of bugs in my backyard. I need to know: 1.) if you can id the bug 2.) If it's harmful to my St. Augustine grass 3.) if you know how to get rid of them. I live in Southeast Texas. The bug is a black almond shape (points at head & other end) creature with 2 orangish- yellow stripes on it's back. There's also a little line sectioning off the head. It can fly (usually 1-2 feet) and has a red underbelly and red legs. It is probably 1/4 inch long. When I mow the lawn they fly everywhere. In the mornings they like to congregate on my siding and glass door in the backyard. They are driving me crazy. I've noticed them for the last month or two. I drew a crude drawing but I don't see where I can attach a file. Thank you for any help in advance.
AnswerHi andrea;
Go to this site.
It is an A&M page on entomology.
Pictures of bugs common to Texas.
There are tone of bugs pictures, and I will bet you can find it, if you can't capture one and take it to a nurseryman. Do you have a Calloway's near you?
