QuestionHi
I have Mid-Iron Bermuda and am getting burn-out spots in various places. I am in the Phoenix area. i keep it mowed and watered evenly. Any thoughts on what is causing this and a possible remedy. The entire lawn is in full sun.
AnswerHi Ed;
I have no idea what Mid-Iron bermuda is, and I tried to look it up, but ould find nothing on it.
hiose spots could be a fungus, coming from a dead tree roots or pieces of wood under the soil that was left there by the builders.
That is usually the reason for fungii that make the mushrooms, and sun doesn't kill the fungus unless it is very hot for prolonged periods.
Brown patch is also another fungus that makes brown, bare spots.
It could also be grubs.
Grab a fistful of the grass and tug on it. If it comes up easily, with little or no roots, and especially if it feels a little slimy, most likely brown patch.
Dig up a shovelful of soil and turn it over. If you see more than 5 or 6 grubs, you have a BAD grub problem, and they are eating the grass roots.
For Brown patch fungus, apply 10 to 15 pounds of horticultural Corn Meal, and water it in.
For grubs.
With chemical products, you have to use them at exactly the right time or they don't work.
I don't recommend any chemical products, because that is only putting a bandaid on a cut artery, and does little and only at best, temporary results.
An organic program cures the problems and keps them away.
