QuestionI was just at a Marriot on Marco Island,Florida & was impressed with their lawn. Living in St. Petersburg, Florida, I have St. Augustine. They told me it was called Pos Pollen (don't know if the spelling is correct). I was very short trimmed & had a lush green look. It had been down for a year so I know it can survive the long summers. Can anyone give me more info on this? Thanks.
AnswerThat's Seashore-loving Paspallum, a salt-loving, very new introduction generating a lot of excitement in the South among golf course greenspeople.
Science marches on!
It's been put down on the Jupiter Dunes Golf Club down there, has replaced Bermudagrass at the Tower Links Golf Cousre in the United Arab Republic (where they can afford ANYTHING), a selling feature at the Crown Colony Country Club... I could go on.
Paspalum Sea Isle and Paspalum Durban are 2 cultivars, the former most notable for the way it THRIVES on salt water. You can see how this would work in a lot of places. In fact, from what I understand, this grass is damaged when you DON'T use Salt Water.
Yes, my friend -- that's PASPALUM you're looking at.
Thanks for writing!
