Questionyou mentioned vinca minor or pathysandra that can be planted if rass refuses to grow under our maple trees. What are these and where can I purchase them. Are they plants or seed? How do you plant and do they spread?
Thank you.
AnswerHi Rudy;
I think you have me confused with another of the other experts.
I have never recommended those as ground covers, because I have never grown them.
I have Asian Jasmine for the only area that I have ground cover.
I think it is best to buy the plants at the nurseries.
I don't have as much luck with seeds, and I see faster results by putting in the small plants that I buy in the 2 inch or 4 inch pots.
I get them at the nursery I like to go to.
I don't care for the plants you get at Walmart, Home Depot etc.
They just never do as well for me.
The nursery I go to is more particular about the growers they buy from, and I get plants with healthier root systems, so I lose fewer plants in the transplanting.
I see the Vince plants at my nursery, pout have no noticed the pachysandra. I am sure they have it too.
I can nly tell you about Asian Jasmine. It does spread. I imagine the others do too, if they are recommended for use as a ground cover.
My Asian Jasmine spread rather slowly in the total shade, so it is best to plant closer together, but where it has reached so it gets some sun, it spreads more rapidly, and where it has reached full sun, it has spread like wildfire, and I just directed some of the tendrils back toward the shaded area, and that is very full now.
